Hunter Arts Network’s next Art Bazaar Cruise Market is being held on Thursday 18 April.
In January, Hunter Arts Network (HAN) set up a series of Art Bazaar Cruise Markets to coincide with cruise ships arriving in Newcastle, to complement the quarterly art bazaars held around the Hunter. Locals & visitors are all invited to browse & shop at all Art Bazaars.

Some of the region’s most talented artists are showcasing their works again to international and domestic cruise ship visitors who are scheduled to arrive in Newcastle on Thursday 18 April & Sunday 26 May 2013.

More than 30 stallholders have been exhibiting at each Art Bazaar Cruise Market in 2013, where tourists have got a taste of Newcastle’s vibrant art scene with some of the area’s most talented artists showcasing their works.

Original handcrafted goods are being showcased by HAN’s finest artists, designers, jewellers & craft people from the Hunter, “It’s a great opportunity for local artists to show their works and hopefully send them off around the world as precious reminders of visiting our beautiful city. With 1000s of visitors coming to Newcastle over the next few months it’s a great way to showcase local creativity and talent”, Donna McKinnis, HAN

While labouring to promote artisans, Art Bazaar creates the ideal platform to educate the community to invest in locally produced high quality visual arts, craft & design: “All participants need to go through a formal application process assessed by a panel of Art Professionals in order to participate – this way HAN can guarantee a very high standard”, Leah Fawthrop, President of HAN.

Visitors to Newcastle & the Hunter can enjoy meeting the artists & designers who have carefully created for the markets being held outside Newcastle Museum, Workshop Way, Newcastle, under the awnings. There will also be demonstrations, ATM’s, & Sprout Canteen is conveniently located at Newcastle Museum.

One of the most authentic tribute shows Australia has ever seen. This show will transport the hardest of critics back to the Whiskey in 1968. Singer Andy Sutton (UK Countdown / Dirty Deeds) is the ultimate Jim Morrison as he struts his stuff with reckless abandonment. Vocally, he has Morrison’s voice ‘down to a tee’ with a ‘close your eyes and it’s Jim’ effect!

Playing the part of Robbie Krueger is Adam Watts (Rattle and Hum / Australian Made) recreates those classic Doors solos ‘note for note’. Our very own Ray Manzarek is played by Sean Phegan (Rattle and Hum / One Hit Wonders) you will lose yourself in those classic organ solos that are so authentic.

Driving this ship from the rear is Vinnie Bondin (Ex Endless Summer Beach Party) on drums pumping out those beats keeping it all together from first song to last. All this with the ambience of a classic Doors light show and stage props makes this a SHOW NOT TO BE MISSED!

In 1992 the Alan Parker film The Commitments based on the short novel by Roddy Doyle was released. The Commitments is something of a rags-to-riches story that sees the group fall just short of stardom. The movie received massive international recognition, nominated for Grammy’s and Academy Awards, and won several BAFTA’s and Brit Awards

After recent six sold out Arena shows in the UK & Ireland Andrew Strong will be touring the Commitments show down-under to celebrate the 21st Anniversary of the Film. The 8-piece band will be performing all the hits that were not only made famous from the film but received incredible chart success in Australia.

Starring Nikki Bennett

Helen Reddy was known as the “Queen of 70s Pop”.

She achieved huge international success, especially in the United States, where she had fifteen singles in the top 40 including three #1 hits in the same year, and her signature hit, I Am Woman became a feminist anthem.

Helen Reddy was the first artist to ever win the coveted American Music Award for “Favorite Pop/Rock Female” artist, the first Australian to win a Grammy Award, and the first Australian to host her own one-hour weekly primetime variety show “The Helen Reddy Show” on an American network, along with several specials that were seen in over forty countries.

In this beautiful one woman show, Nikki Bennett’s performance captures the essence of this amazing artist through her life story, with all of its remarkable highs and lows.

Featuring the hits: I Am Woman, Delta Dawn, No way to Treat a Lady, I Don’t Know how to Love Him, Angie Baby, Somewhere In the Night, Keep on Singing, You and Me Against the World, Peaceful, My Emotion and more, this is truly first class tribute to one of the great, pioneering female performers of our time.

Get What You Give Australian Tour

With Special Guests Emmure, Antogonist AD, Hand of Mercy

Destroy All Lines are excited to present the return of their riotous annual touring mini-festival DESTROY MUSIC. A year off has allowed them to cook up a line-up to rival the 2011 installment that saw audiences lap up The Amity Affliction, I Killed the Prom Queen, Deez Nuts and Of Mice and Men. This year they’re dishing up a mega line-up of brutal bands to destroy music over NINE huge shows for all ages in May and June.

Los Angeles melodic hardcore gurus THE GHOST INSIDE continue their ferocious assault on Australian audiences, following a mostly sold-out tour with brothers The Amity Affliction last September. 2012 saw The Ghost Inside receive broad and unabashed acclaim for their unique blend of intelligent, personal hardcore, delivered in the form of Epitaph Records debut ‘You Get What You Give. The album even stormed Triple J Short Fast Loud’s annual listener’s poll, taking out #3 position. They’ll pack their most hectic riffing, crushing break-downs and bone-crushing live shows to dominate Australian stages in typical ruthless style. Their clip for ‘The Great Unknown’ displays the kind of relentless insanity that’ll go down at Destroy Music HERE.

Haling from Queens, NYC, EMMURE take the callousness of life in their neighbourhood and channel it into an explosive catalogue of straight up, straight-forward metalcore. They’ll clock up a decade of delivering intense, intelligent heavy music this year, on the back of fifth album ‘Slave to the Game’. The openness and honestly of vocalist Frank Palmeri promises that Emmure’s live shows will be high energy, high precision brutality with added soul.

ANTAGONIST AD are committed to delivering modern hardcore with old school aesthetics. They address social and political issues, loaded with venom and conviction. Having cleaved their way through Australia, Southeast Asia and home-nation New Zealand (with bands like Most Precious Blood, Have Heart and Parkway Drive), Antagonist AD are poised to commence a fresh aural onslaught.

Sydney’s HAND OF MERCY have done everything on their own terms from day one. Delivering their heaviest release ever in 2012’s self-funded ‘Last Lights’, HOM are renown for pulling a diverse crowd. Catch them smashing stages just like they’ve done on tours past with The Amity Affliction, Parkway Drive and more.

Prepare yourselves for another hectic chapter in Destroy Music history. See you in the pit.

When was the last time you really looked forward to a new album, to the point where the packaging, liner notes and first fifteen listens all felt like the missing pieces of a much larger puzzle? Not just a puzzle – an event, like a Summer time sequel or season finale that’s actually worth the wait, and doesn’t just expand upon the story, so much as set its sails to new shores.

If it has been a while, then prepare yourself for The Presets’ latest delivery of carefully cultivated, synth-laced, prismatic pop songs: Pacifica.

Pacifica is the Sydney duo’s long-awaited return to the spotlight after vocalist/keyboardist Julian Hamilton and drummer/keyboardist Kim Moyes chased a seven-year touring/recording cycle with children—first-time fatherhood for both of them—and some much-needed time off.

The classically-trained producers/performers weren’t about to sit still for too long, however. Shortly after, the band was back to making beats and sketching new songs from a bevy of boundless equipment. All without the added pressure of deadlines and tour dates, leaving them with enough time to flesh ideas out with freeform jams or something as simple as a spare piano piece. As Julian plainly puts it, “I remember doing that stuff when I was 20, but I haven’t really had a chance to since.”

Sean was the keyboard player in “Wildcard” with Adam and stayed on as the keyboard player with The “One Hit Wonders”. After two years of frantic playing around Sydney Sean left and formed “Wham Bam” a tribute show to the 1980′s. This played a bit but didn’t hit the mark, so when Sean got a call from Adam to be in “Australian Made” Sean jumped at the chance. Sean brings to the band that thundering bass sound of Adam Claytons and note for note perfection of the bass lines. Sean’s high vocal ability and harmonising adds to Rattle and Hum’s authentic sound.

The band’s recent release of the four-track EP ‘This Fire’ and a handful of special preview shows (including a barnstorming set at the Homebake Festival) have provided fans with their first taste of the new Birds of Tokyo. The EP’s lead track has been one of the most requested and most played songs on the triple j network over recent weeks, and is still climbing the national airplay chart.

For Birds of Tokyo, the last year has been all about change and renewal and that experience is infused throughout their new album.

First there was the addition of two new members (Glenn Sarangapany on keys and Ian Berney on bass). Then for various reasons the three original members (Ian Kenny – vocals, Adam Spark – guitars and Adam Weston – drums) all relocated from their hometown of Perth to new cities across the eastern seaboard. After that they consciously reinvented their approach to songwriting with a new Sydney studio space plus time spent together in a remote French farmhouse helping to blaze new trails. And if that wasn’t enough, they then went to Los Angeles to record with both a new producer, Dave Cooley (Silversun Pickups) and a new mixer, Tony Hoffer (M83, Beck, The Kooks, Belle & Sebastian).

“We really made a conscious choice to just put a match to everything we’d done before so that we could create something that felt fresh and exciting for us. Hopefully people who like the band will feel the same way when they hear it”, explains Adam Spark.

Don’t miss Birds of Tokyo live in 2013 as they launch ‘March Fires’ from coast to coast. Stay tuned for much, much more.

Grinspoon, one of Australia’s most loved live rock bands are hitting the road and coming your way.

In September this year they released their seventh studio album, ‘Black Rabbits’ which made its ARIA chart debut at #8. It’s only fitting that with the release of a new album and now 7 Top Ten albums under their belt that the band gets back on the road and tour.

The Lismore-born quartet – Front man Phil Jamieson, Guitarist Pat Davern, Drummer Kristian Hopes and Bassist Joe Hansen – burst onto the national music scene in 1995 via a string of hits which later appeared on their 1997 debut album, Guide To Better Living. Across their career the band have amassed album sales of 500,000 copies in Australia, including multiple platinum certifications and the ARIA award for ‘Best Rock Album’ in 2005 for Thrills, Kills & Sunday Pills.

Grinspoon kick off 2013 playing the Big Day Out shows across the country in January with a special ‘All Hits’ set with just a couple of new tracks thrown in.

In March the band embark on their National ‘Black Rabbits’ headline tour which will be a whole new live show for fans who’ve experienced the explosion of energy, sound and good time rock ‘n roll that is Grinspoon. These shows will be the longest set the band have ever played, with a mix of everyone’s favourites and a healthy selection of new tunes from the new album, ‘Black Rabbits’

This is a series of shows not to be missed for old & new Grinspoon fans!

Lennard Promotions are thrilled to present 90′s rock giants Extreme along with very special guest guitar virtuoso Richie Kotzen live in Australia in 2013.

Extreme won a legion of fans during the 80′s and 90′s selling over 10 million records including their global smash hit More Than Words. Known for their heavy hitting musical ability and featuring the blazing guitar work of Nuno Bettencourt, Extreme exercised restraint rather than indulgence producing amazing music that not only showcased the band’s proficiency but also their collective mastery of hook laden rock. Richie Kotzen is a renowned guitar prodigy in his own right texturing both his own acclaimed releases and those from a string of notable acts including Poison and Mr Big with stunning guitar lines and breathtaking musical dexterity. Teaming up for what is sure to be a highlight on the 2013 touring calendar Extreme and very special guest Richie Kotzen will thrill Australian music lovers and galvanise guitar tragics alike.

It all started when four Boston-bred kids joined forces in the late 80s to form Extreme. With an original new sound and ground-breaking records, the foursome was immediately recognised as innovators in the world of rock & roll. The band has described their music as “Funky Metal” in the early days, but it would evolve much more in the mid-90s by blending classic rock influences with post-grunge and alternative rock. The band’s popularity was fuelled by guitar virtuoso Nuno Bettencourt’s signature style, Gary Cherone’s resonant vocals and socially conscious lyrics, Pat Badger’s rock solid bass, and the hard hitting Kevin Figueiredo on drums.

The band’s self-titled debut was released in 1989 to some acclaim, thought it was their 1990 album Pornograffitti that captured worldwide attention. Peaking at number 10 on the Billboard 200, Pornograffitti was certified multi-platinum and featured Bettencourt’s blistering guitar work which brought widespread admiration from rock guitar enthusiasts and continual exposure in leading guitar playing publications. It was however the acoustic ballad More Than Words, that captured imaginations and reached #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 in the United States landing Extreme their first #1 hit song.

Since the worldwide smash that was Pornograffitti Extreme have released three further albums including Saudades de Rock in 2008 and endured various periods of hiatus with members exploring side projects including Gary Cherone’s stint as vocalist in Van Halen before reforming permanently in 2007. Showcasing material from their most recent album and classics from all their previous discs, the members of Extreme are always thrilled to be heading out on the road. “As much as we enjoy recording, for me, I’ve always loved playing live for the fans,” Cherone says. “We can’t wait to get out there and play this music live.”

Fender-wielding Los Angeles-based guitar hero Richie Kotzen is frequently touted in the international guitar press as one of the world’s best guitarists, with a 50-album discography to back it up. Born in 1970 in Reading. Pa., Kotzen Kotzen moved to San Francisco at age 18, recording his first album at age 19 for metal mainstay label Shrapnel Records. Guitar World magazine readers proclaimed him one of the top three best new guitarists of 1989.

Kotzen’s big break came in 1991 when, at age 21, he joined multi-platinum glam rockers Poison, with whom he recorded 1993’s Native Tongue. The platinum album spawned two top-twenty singles written by Kotzen, “Stand” and “Until You Suffer Some (Fire & Ice).” Post-Poison, Kotzen recorded albums on Geffen, Shrapnel and JVC until 1999, when legendary jazz bassist Stanley Clarke and drummer Lenny White invited him to form Vertu, which recorded an eponymous album that year and toured Europe extensively. Later in 1999, Kotzen joined hugely popular rock band Mr Big, recording Get Over It (1999) and Actual Size (2001) and penning his first number-one single in Japan, “Shine.”

Kotzen is one of the few artists to have two signature model Fender guitars in Japan; a Telecaster and a Stratocaster bearing his name have each been top sellers in Japan since they were introduced in 1995. Richie Kotzen’s latest release is titled ’24 Hours’

Already revealed to be representing the folk punk genre on the epic 2013 Byron Bay Bluesfest lineup, Dropkick Murphys and Frank Turner And The Sleeping Souls will team up and take to the road next March/April, bringing with them Californian punks, Swingin’ Utters.

Dropkick Murphys will come out swinging on the back of their new album Signed And Sealed In Blood, due out via Dew Process on January 11, 2013. The album, said to resemble the ‘last 30 seconds of a Stanley Cup hockey game: frenetic and dangerous’, is the band’s eighth-full length effort and sees the seven-piece totally on top of their game as songwriters and performers. Australia is already familiar with their raucous live presence; a stage swarming with sweat and swagger. Dropkicks have an enviable reputation for delivering a live show that can satisfy fans of any age and predilection. Everyone from old school skate punx to those more recently recruited by the foot stomping Celtic anthems of Going Out In Style can emerge from a Dropkick Murphys show with an irrepressible smile.

a press release from early 2009 Chan Marshall a/k/a US songstress Cat Power, suggested her days with Dirty Delta Blues (her illustrious backing band including members of Dirty Three and The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion) maybe drawing to a close. Turns out that was no idle threat… her current touring band includes just one former-DDB member, keyboardist, Gregg Foreman. The remaining members, all female, having been drawn from lengthy auditions.

Sun, the first Cat Power album of all self-penned material in six years, also follows that reinvention with all tracks bar those on lead single Ruin (the sole contribution by Dirty Delta Blues) having been played and produced by Cat Power herself.

Some people are known for one or two things. Others have achievements that are so bountiful, it’s impossible to fathom how they’ve fitted it all in. Others still, manage to do all of that within the first three decades of their life – and yet only as a precursor to what more they have lying ahead. One such phenomenon is Singer/Songwriter/Musician/Dancer/Actor/Television Presenter, Nathan Foley.

Recognizable from a plethora of roles, Nathan Foley has not only had the privilege of being a one time frontispiece, as part of the sensationally popular Hi-5 team, but he has appeared in innumerable shows, won a sea of awards and continues to push his way through a variety of performance mediums.

Sydney born, 31 year old Foley happens to have been blessed with a set of vocal chords that would (according to his family) “fill an Entertainment Centre” – and that, they have. Once considered a child prodigy by the ‘knowledgeable’ of the entertainment industry, he is well and truly, a seasoned performer who has actually been captivating audiences, since his junior years.

From the legendary Ned Kelly to the jumbuck stealing swagman, Waltzing Matilda, our heritage is littered with infamy and intrigue into these characters. Of the many anti-heroes who have shaped Australia’s underbelly, only Mark Brandon “Chopper” Read remains.

Considered by many as Australia’s last outlaw; the former Pentridge inmate is now a self-respecting family man, living peacefully in Melbourne. Now an entertainer, artist, author of several best-selling books, philanthropist and character depicted by Eric Bana in an internationally acclaimed motion picture; the real “Chopper” is about to embark on what will be the final chapter in a tale of crime, blood, sweat and more blood.

Witness the life and times of Mark Brandon “Chopper” Read, as he recalls tales of his past that are both gut and heart wrenching. Speaking candidly in an open forum on his exploits, sordid history and views of the modern world; Chopper and long time bodyguard, Mark “The Hammer” Dixon, deliver vivid accounts of the gangland underworld where the legend of one of Australia’s most notorious icons began.

“I’ve done 23 years 9 months in Jail. I’ve done 10 1/2 years in H Division. I’ve been stabbed 13 times in 7 different episodes. I’ve been hit on the head with iron bars. I’ve been hit on the head with claw hammers, shot once, I’ve been run over. I’ve survived 60 serves of shock treatment in 6 months, 1 serve every 3 days. They certified me 3 times, once at the age of 15, once at the age of 19 and once at the age of 23. I’ve been bloody well bashed and belted from one end of the street to the other. I’ve had everything done to me. I wouldn’t recommend going to jail, I wouldn’t recommend my life to anybody. It’s a bloody dog’s life, a s@#$ life, a terrible life. I wouldn’t recommend it to anybody.”

This is a raw, unique and personal account of Mark “Chopper” Read’s life from Australia’s most infamous figure and his closest of associates. Sharing graphic and brutally honest stories of violence, blood, love and survival, Chopper and Hammer deliver what will be Mark “Chopper” Read’s final chapters. From mental hospitals to the infamous Pentridge H division, this jaw dropping tour will leave you with a different understanding of the man that is “Chopper”.

Byron Bay’s PARKWAY DRIVE will embark on their most ambitious Australian tour this December to coincide with the release of their hugely anticipated fourth album, Atlas.

Recorded in Los Angeles with esteemed producer Matt Hyde (Slayer, Hatebreed, Sum 41, Alkaline Trio, etc.), the soon-to-be-released Atlas is yet another leap forward for the chart-topping Australian group, whose previous effort, 2010’s Deep Blue, took out the ARIA award for Best Hard Rock and Metal release.

The new album’s heightened ambition has led to plans for a more elaborate live show.
“Everything has been enhanced,” says PARKWAY vocalist Winston McCall. “For the past ten years we’ve played with a backdrop, and the whole experience has been us. We’re trying something this time, and hopefully it makes people feel something different as well. It’s definitely going to be entertaining. There won’t be any dead spots.”

December’s Atlas Australian Tour will boast an all-Australian line-up, with support coming from three exciting local acts, I Killed The Prom Queen, Northlane and Survival.

“It’s the biggest tour we’ve ever done, and the fact that we’re keeping it all Australian means a lot to us and highlights how far the bands in this country have come,” says McCall.

Dargie Entertainment presents 2011’s hottest new show – ‘Katy Perry featuring the Oz Pussycat Dolls’. Betty Dargie stars in this power-packed production which includes an incredibly talented and glamourous cast of dancers and vocalists.

Betty’s natural resemblance to Katy Perry is uncanny. After being mistaken for Katy Perry by strangers on the street for over 12 months, the idea for this show was born.

No expense has been spared in production, as this show features exact replicas of some of Katy Perry’s most famous and outrageous costumes including ‘The Fruit Dress’ and ‘The Cup-cake Bra’. Betty’s powerful and dynamic vocal skills create a realistic tribute with songs like ‘I Kissed A Girl’, ‘Teenage Dream’, ‘Firework’, ‘California Girls’ and many more. The Katy Perry Show is accompanied by stunning female and male dancers to complete the experience.

This exciting show also includes a tribute to the Pussycat Dolls. Five of the country’s most beautiful and talented dancers and vocalists come together to create a special tribute to the girl supergroup. Exciting choreography, stunning costumes and songs such as ‘When I Grow Up’, ‘Don’t Cha’, ‘Buttons’ and ‘Jai Ho’ will leave you screaming for more.
